Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of Ayurvedic constitution-based diets for weight loss in obese adults.
  • To analyze weight loss patterns according to Ayurvedic dosha (Vatta, Pitta, Kapha).

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective study of 200 obese adults who completed a 3-month Ayurvedic diet therapy.
  • Determination of predominant dosha using personality traits, physical signs, and food preferences.
  • Prescription and monitoring of constitution-based diets.

Main Results:

  • Subjects were classified as Vatta (27.5%), Pitta (41.5%), and Kapha (31.0%) predominant.
  • Pitta-predominant individuals exhibited the highest weight loss (9.84%) after 3 months.
  • Greater reductions in anthropometric measurements were observed in Pitta and Kapha groups compared to Vatta.

Conclusions:

  • Ayurvedic constitution-based diets may be beneficial for promoting weight loss in obese individuals.
