Summary

Context:

Unilateral recurrent nerve paralysis significantly impairs voice quality.
Medialisation surgery has been a long-standing treatment for this condition.

Purpose:

To describe surgical methods for unilateral recurrent nerve paralysis.
To evaluate surgical outcomes using subjective and objective voice analysis.

Summary:

A retrospective study of 42 patients treated with hydroxyapatite prostheses or silicone oil injection showed improved voice quality.
Acoustic analysis (MDVP) revealed significant reductions in jitter, shimmer, and soft phonation index.
Patient satisfaction was high, with 41 out of 42 patients satisfied with their voice outcomes.

Impact:

Surgical intervention is a safe and effective treatment for unilateral recurrent nerve paralysis.
Voice quality improvements are more pronounced in patients with significant glottic closure deficits.
This procedure should be considered for patients experiencing voice problems due to this condition.
