Summary

Background:

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) significantly impacts women's quality of life.
Hysterectomy is a definitive treatment but carries substantial risks and recovery time.
Endometrial ablation presents a less invasive surgical alternative for DUB management.

Observation:

This study evaluates surgical techniques for DUB management via endometrial ablation.
Neodymium yttrium aluminium garnet (Nd:YAG) laser and electrosurgical resection with a ball-end electrode are the primary methods discussed.
Data from 484 patients treated since 1985 are analyzed.

Findings:

74% of patients achieved amenorrhea (no menstrual bleeding).
An additional 14% reported satisfactory results with occasional spotting.

Implications:
