Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Ewing's sarcoma typically affects long bones in young individuals.
  • It shares histological and molecular similarities with primitive neuroectodermal tumors.
  • Adult cranial presentation is exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A 25-year-old man presented with cranial swelling due to two mass lesions.
  • Imaging revealed osteolytic changes and heterogeneous enhancement in the parietal and frontal regions.
  • Ga-67 citrate scintigraphy confirmed localized cranial uptake.

Findings:

  • Histopathology showed small round cells with rosette formation, consistent with Ewing's sarcoma.
  • Surgical excision of one lesion followed by cranial irradiation and chemotherapy.

  • Complete resolution of the frontal lesion and no recurrence at 1-year follow-up.
  • Implications:

    • Ewing's sarcoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of adult cranial masses.
    • Multimodality treatment can be effective for cranial Ewing's sarcoma.
    • Further research into adult cranial presentations of this rare tumor is warranted.
