Context:

Layperson's role in emergency response is crucial for immediate care.
Basic life support (BLS) knowledge is fundamental for saving lives and preventing sequelae.

Purpose:

To assess the level of knowledge among laypersons regarding approaching and managing emergency victims.
Identify gaps in understanding of vital signs and emergency service contact.

Summary:

A study of 385 individuals revealed significant deficiencies in layperson knowledge of emergency care.
Over 55% witnessed loss of consciousness but only 31% called for help; 34% had first-aid training but only 13% felt prepared.
Many laypersons demonstrated incomplete or incorrect knowledge regarding unconscious victims and emergency procedures.

Impact:

Findings underscore the need for improved public education in emergency preparedness and basic life support.
Highlights deficiencies in current first-aid training accessibility and effectiveness, particularly information from driving schools.
