  • A 0-10 verbal pain rating scale was used to evaluate both needle and medication pain.
  • Main Results:

    • Mean pain for needle insertion was 0.80 (SD=0.81); 40% reported no pain.
    • Mean pain for medication was 0.92 (SD=1.5); 64.6% reported no pain.
    • Men post-radical prostatectomy reported significantly more medication pain (51.9% vs. 23.7%, P=0.02).

    Conclusions:

    • Most patients experience minimal to no pain from intracavernosal injections.
    • Pain severity, when present, is generally low, addressing a key patient concern.
    • Consider lower initial medication dosages for post-prostatectomy patients due to higher pain incidence.
