Abstract:
A case of toxic encephalopathy due to podophyllin poisoning was presented. It is documented for the first time by MRI that diffuse cerebral atrophy occurred as a result of podophyllin toxicity.
Insights
This case study presents toxic encephalopathy from podophyllin poisoning. MRI imaging reveals diffuse cerebral atrophy as a consequence of this toxicity for the first time.
Area of Science:
- Neurology
- Toxicology
Background:
- Podophyllin is a cytotoxic agent used in treating warts.
- Podophyllin poisoning can lead to severe neurological complications.
Observation:
- A patient presented with symptoms of toxic encephalopathy.
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was utilized for diagnostic evaluation.
Findings:
- The case documents, for the first time, diffuse cerebral atrophy in a patient with podophyllin toxicity.
- MRI findings confirmed widespread brain tissue damage.
Implications:
- This highlights the potential neurotoxic effects of podophyllin.
- MRI is crucial for diagnosing and understanding the extent of brain damage in podophyllin poisoning.
