Identification of yeast in chronic wounds using new pathogen-detection technologies

Two new molecular diagnostic methods, fungal tag-encoded FLX amplicon pyrosequencing (fTEFAP) and a quantitative PCR (qPCR) wound panel, were evaluated for detecting yeast in chronic wound infections. fTEFAP identified a broader range of yeasts compared to the rapid but limited qPCR panel.
