Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review and synthesize evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effects of garlic on serum cholesterol levels.
  • To provide a meta-analysis of high-quality studies to clarify garlic's impact on lipid profiles.

Main Methods:

  • A comprehensive literature search was conducted across major databases (Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE) and other sources up to March 2008.
  • Included were RCTs of 11-24 weeks duration evaluating garlic's effect on cholesterol in healthy and hypercholesterolemic individuals.
