Summary

De novo atherosclerosis, a rare condition, can develop in coronary stents years after implantation. This case highlights calcified neointima causing restenosis 8 years post-stent deployment.

  • A patient presented with angina 8 years after initial coronary stent placement.
  • The patient exhibited symptoms indicative of restenosis.
  • Diagnostic imaging was performed to evaluate the stent and surrounding vessel.

Findings:

  • Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) greyscale imaging revealed significant neointimal tissue within the stent.
  • Virtual histology (VH) analysis of the IVUS data identified calcification within this neointima.
