  • To investigate the role of circulating MIF in the pathogenesis of cerebral malaria.

  • Peripheral blood plasma samples were collected from healthy controls, mild malaria patients, and cerebral malaria patients (survivors and non-survivors).

  • Logistic regression models were employed to analyze the association between MIF levels and fatal outcomes.

Main Results:

  • Elevated MIF levels in cerebral malaria patients were significantly associated with a fatal outcome (OR 4.0, p=0.003).
