  • Group A: large stitches (1 cm) with large suture distance (1 cm); Group B: small stitches (0.5 cm) with small suture distance (0.5 cm).
  • Main Results:

    • Group B (small stitches, small distance) demonstrated significantly higher geometric mean tensile force (787 N) than Group A (large stitches, large distance) (534 N).
    • Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the groups (P = .006).
    • The data indicate a clear biomechanical advantage for smaller suture parameters.

    Conclusions:

    • Smaller stitches with closer spacing result in superior tensile strength compared to larger stitches with wider spacing.
    • These findings suggest that small stitches and small suture distances are advantageous for preventing burst abdomen and incisional hernia.
    • Implementing smaller suture parameters may enhance the integrity of midline abdominal wall closures.
