  • VEPs were recorded using both LCD and CRT displays.
  • Recordings were performed in silence and with background music.
  • Changes in P100 latency, RMS noise, and variability were analyzed.
  • Main Results:

    • The recumbent position significantly reduced RMS noise variability and recording time (73%) compared to the seated position.
    • LCD monitors resulted in significantly increased P100 latency versus CRT displays.
    • Background music did not significantly alter RMS noise during the initial 50msec.

    Conclusions:

    • The recumbent position enhances patient comfort and improves the signal-to-noise ratio in VEP recordings.
    • LCD displays may lead to false positive results due to increased P100 latency, necessitating caution.
    • Background music does not improve VEP signal quality, suggesting it's not a beneficial addition for optimization.
