Area of Science:

  • Immunology
  • Cell Biology
  • Infectious Disease

Background:

  • B cells are traditionally known for antibody production.
  • The role of B cells in antigen presentation and T cell activation is complex.
  • Understanding B cell functions is key to developing effective immune responses against pathogens.

Discussion:

  • Wojciechowski et al. reveal novel functions of B cells in immune response.
  • B cells actively participate in specific-antigen presentation.
  • B cells contribute to cytokine production, modulating T helper cell differentiation.

Key Insights:

  • B cells are essential for optimal T helper 2 cell responses.
  • These B cell functions are critical for protection against Heligmosomoides polygyrus.
