Abstract:
Synovial cysts in association with an os odontoideum are rare. All previous cases have been treated via a posterior approach with good results. The authors present a patient with a synovial cyst in association with an os odontoideum and discuss a planned two-stage procedure to excise the cyst via a neuronavigation-assisted transoral-transpharyngeal approach, followed by a posterior C1/2 fixation.
