Summary

An 83-year-old experienced recurrent corneal epithelial dysplasia after abrasion. Treatment with mitomycin C resulted in a clear cornea with good vision, and human papillomavirus type 6 was identified.

  • The lesion extended to involve the entire corneal epithelium, limbus, and conjunctiva.
  • Biopsies confirmed stage 3 corneal epithelial dysplasia, with normal limbal and conjunctival epithelium.

Findings:

  • Surgical resection followed by two cycles of topical mitomycin C was performed.
  • Human papillomavirus type 6 was detected, a type not typically associated with malignancy.
