Perceived similarity is a fundamental concept in cognition and vision.
Previous research has primarily focused on static image comparisons.
The role of dynamic transformations in shaping similarity perception remains less understood.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate whether the direction of a visual transformation influences perceived image similarity.
To determine if the ease of transformation between object representations affects similarity judgments.
To provide evidence for the psychological reality of transformations in object recognition.

Main Methods:

Participants viewed animations morphing objects within the same category.
Static images were extracted from morph continua.
Directional similarity judgments (e.g., 'How similar is A to B?') were collected for image pairs.

Main Results:

Identical image comparisons yielded higher similarity ratings when the second object (B) appeared later in the morph sequence than the first object (A).
This effect demonstrates a directional bias in similarity perception based on transformational history.
Results indicate that the perceived ease of transformation impacts similarity judgments.
