Ureaplasma urealyticum (U. urealyticum) is significantly more prevalent in women with unexplained infertility. Testing for U. urealyticum is recommended for patients experiencing infertility of unknown cause.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To explore the association between Ureaplasma urealyticum and unexplained infertility.
  • To determine if mycoplasma colonization differs between infertile and fertile women.

Main Methods:

  • A comparative study involving 100 women: 50 with unexplained infertility and 50 fertile controls.
  • Cervical swabs were collected for bacteriological analysis to detect mycoplasma.
  • Statistical analysis using the chi-square test was employed to assess significance.

Main Results:

  • Mycoplasmas were detected in 38% of unexplained infertility cases versus 12% in controls.
