    Summary

Sharp cutting liposuction cannulas offer an effective alternative for gynecomastia treatment, particularly in fibrous breast tissue. This method alone achieved satisfactory results in 81% of patients treated by 19 surgeons.

    Area of Science:

    • Plastic Surgery
    • Surgical Techniques

    Background:

    • Gynecomastia treatment often involves liposuction, but blunt cannulas struggle with fibrous tissue.
    • Open excision is effective for fibrous tissue but more invasive.
    • Ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty is an alternative for fibrous areas in gynecomastia.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of sharp cutting liposuction cannulas for gynecomastia treatment.
    • To assess the outcomes of using sharp cutting cannulas as a standalone procedure.

    Main Methods:

    • A prospective study involving 22 surgeons and 88 cases of gynecomastia.
    • Utilized sharp cutting liposuction cannulas for fat and fibrous tissue removal.
    • Collected early experience and patient outcomes from participating surgeons.

    Main Results:

    • Sharp cutting liposuction cannulas demonstrated effectiveness in removing fibrous breast tissue.
    • Satisfactory results were achieved in 81% of patients when using sharp cutting cannulas alone.
    • 19 out of 22 surgeons reported positive outcomes with this technique.

    Conclusions:

    • Sharp cutting liposuction cannulas represent a viable and effective alternative for gynecomastia surgery.
    • This technique simplifies the treatment of fibrous breast tissue, potentially reducing the need for open excision.
