    Summary

The "peeling orange" deepithelialization technique for reduction mammaplasty is a fast and simple method. This scalpel technique offers quicker deepithelialization compared to en bloc methods, especially for long pedicles.

    Area of Science:

    • Plastic Surgery
    • Surgical Techniques

    Background:

    • Reduction mammaplasty aims to reduce breast volume while maintaining nipple-areolar complex viability.
    • Traditional deepithelialization methods can be time-consuming and technically demanding.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and ease of learning of the "peeling orange" deepithelialization technique.
    • To compare the speed of deepithelialization using the "peeling orange" method versus en bloc deepithelialization.

    Main Methods:

    • The "peeling orange" technique involves scalpel-based deepithelialization.
    • Comparison with en bloc deepithelialization was performed, noting differences in procedure time, particularly with long pedicles.

    Main Results:

    • The "peeling orange" deepithelialization technique is characterized as fast and simple to master.
    • This method facilitates more rapid deepithelialization than en bloc deepithelialization.
    • The benefits are particularly noted in cases involving long pedicles.

    Conclusions:

    • The "peeling orange" technique is a valuable and efficient alternative for deepithelialization in reduction mammaplasty.
    • Its simplicity and speed make it a favorable option for surgeons, especially in complex cases.
