Summary

Intracoronary bone marrow stem cell (BMC) therapy shows promise for improving cardiac function after acute myocardial infarction. This meta-analysis found a significant increase in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in patients receiving BMC treatment compared to controls.

  • Primary endpoint: change in global left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) from baseline to 3-6 month follow-up.
  • Main Results:

    • No significant baseline differences between BMC treatment and control groups.
    • BMC group showed a significantly greater increase in LVEF compared to the control group (mean difference: 6.108%, P<.001).

    Conclusions:

    • Intracoronary bone marrow stem cell infusion appears effective for improving left ventricular systolic function in post-AMI patients.
    • Findings support BMC therapy as a potential treatment to enhance cardiac function recovery after acute myocardial infarction.
