Abstract:
We report a unique case of a melamine bladder urinary stone. A physiopathologic mechanism of formation is proposed and discussed.
Insights
This study details a rare melamine bladder urinary stone case. A proposed physiopathologic mechanism explains its formation and provides new insights into urinary stone development.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Toxicology
- Biochemistry
Background:
- Urinary stones are a common urological condition.
- Melamine is a nitrogen-rich industrial chemical not typically associated with stone formation.
Observation:
- A unique case of a bladder urinary stone composed primarily of melamine is presented.
- The stone was identified in a patient with unknown exposure history.
Findings:
- A novel physiopathologic mechanism for melamine-induced urinary stone formation is proposed.
- Analysis suggests supersaturation and crystal aggregation as key steps.
Implications:
- This case expands the known spectrum of urinary stone etiologies.
- Understanding melamine's role may inform prevention strategies in potential exposure scenarios.
