Summary

Single incision laparoscopic splenectomy is a safe and feasible technique for treating immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). This minimally invasive approach offers a viable alternative to traditional laparoscopic surgery, with good patient outcomes.

  • Two female patients diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) underwent single incision laparoscopic splenectomy.
  • A single 2-cm umbilical incision was utilized for trocar placement.
  • The spleen was successfully removed using specialized laparoscopic instruments and a retrieval bag.

Findings:

  • Both procedures were completed without intraoperative complications.

  • Patients were discharged on postoperative days 2 and 3 with significantly improved thrombocyte counts.
  • This represents, to our knowledge, the first reported cases of SILS splenectomy.

    • Implications:

    • Single incision laparoscopic splenectomy is a promising technique for ITP management.
    • SILS may offer cosmetic and recovery benefits for patients undergoing splenectomy.
    • Further research is warranted to evaluate the long-term efficacy and broader applicability of SILS for splenectomy.
