Membrane lipids such as phosphatidylinositol (PI) are precursors for several membrane-bound and soluble second messengers. Specific kinases phosphorylate PI and produce phosphorylated inositol phospholipids. Summary

CpG islands (CGIs) are DNA regions usually unmethylated near genes. CGI methylation in cancer silences genes, but also occurs in normal tissues, potentially regulating cell identity.

  • Mammalian genomes contain CpG islands (CGIs), DNA regions rich in CpG sites, typically unmethylated and located near gene promoters.
