This review compares two human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix. Both vaccines are safe and effective for their approved uses, with recommendations based on individual patient needs.

  • Both vaccines target HPV 16 and 18 for cervical cancer and high-grade CIN prevention.
  • Quadrivalent vaccine also targets HPV 6 and 11 for condylomata acuminata and low-grade CIN.
  • Bivalent vaccine adjuvant accelerates immune response; both show cross-protection against different HPV types.

Conclusions:

  • Both HPV vaccines are safe and effective for approved indications.
  • Recommendations should consider individual patient characteristics.
  • Long-term data will further differentiate vaccine efficacy and claims.
