Pulmonary myxoma in a sheep.

Background:

• Pulmonary myxomas are exceptionally rare in domestic animals.
• Previous reports in sheep are limited to two documented cases.

Observation:

• An 8 x 6 x 4 cm, well-demarcated, multilobulated mass was found in the right lung of a 4-year-old Persian Karakul ewe.
• The mass presented as soft, white, encapsulated, and exuded a mucoid substance upon sectioning.

Findings:

• Microscopic examination revealed a hypocellular myxomatous matrix rich in acid mucopolysaccharides.
• Tumor cells were spindle-shaped or stellate with uniform nuclei and expressed vimentin and S100.
• These features are characteristic of a myxoma.

Implications:

• This case adds to the limited understanding of pulmonary myxomas in sheep.
• Provides detailed histopathological and immunohistochemical data for diagnosing similar veterinary cases.
