Summary

Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) regulates inflammation during pregnancy. This study shows hCG modifies macrophage function, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines and enhancing immune cell survival in a peritonitis model.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of hCG on cytokine production and cell recruitment in vivo using a thioglycollate (TG)-induced peritonitis model.
  • To determine if Mphi are the primary cells responsive to hCG's immunomodulatory effects.
