Two novel porphyrinoids were synthesized: a benzannelated triphyrin for metal complexes and an all-carbon azulene-derived porphyrinoid for molecular electronics and anion recognition.
Area of Science:
- Macromolecular Chemistry
- Supramolecular Chemistry
- Organic Synthesis
Background:
- Porphyrinoids are versatile macrocyclic compounds with diverse applications.
- Developing novel porphyrinoid structures expands their utility in various scientific fields.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize and characterize a novel benzannelated triphyrin with a [2.1.1] bridging pattern.
- To investigate the properties and potential applications of an azulene-derived tetracationic all-carbon porphyrinoid.
Main Methods:
- Synthesis of benzannelated triphyrin (1).
- Synthesis of azulene-derived tetracationic all-carbon porphyrinoid (2).
- Characterization of compounds 1 and 2 using spectroscopic and analytical techniques.
Main Results:
- Compound 1 was successfully synthesized and shown to be suitable for forming metal triphyrin complexes.
- Compound 2, an all-carbon porphyrinoid, exhibits promising characteristics for molecular electronics.
- Compound 2 also demonstrates potential as a receptor for weakly binding anions.
Conclusions:
- The study presents two novel porphyrinoid structures with distinct properties and potential applications.
- Benzannelated triphyrins offer avenues for developing new metal complexes.
- All-carbon porphyrinoids like compound 2 are promising for advanced applications in electronics and sensing.
