Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) mortality rates in Cuba are similar to Hispanic populations and lower than in Northern Europeans. Mortality from ALS was found to be lowest in the mixed-ancestry population, suggesting a role for ancestry in disease susceptibility.
