Background:

  • Gastric carcinoids (GCs), arising from gastric enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells, represent 2.4% of carcinoids and are increasingly detected during upper endoscopy.
  • Current classification includes type 1 (associated with hypergastrinemia and chronic atrophic gastritis), type 2 (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1), and type 3 (unrelated to hypergastrinemia, often malignant with metastases).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review the current understanding and clinical approaches to managing gastric carcinoids.
  • To highlight the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges posed by different GCs subtypes.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of current nosography and treatment modalities for gastric carcinoids.
