Background:

  • Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin condition, has been previously linked to dyslipidaemia.
  • Lichen planus (LP) is another chronic inflammatory disorder with potential systemic implications.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between lichen planus (LP) and dyslipidaemia in the Israeli population.
  • To determine if LP is an independent risk factor for dyslipidaemia.

Main Methods:

  • A case-control study was conducted using data from Clalit Health Services in Israel.
  • 1477 patients diagnosed with LP were compared to 2856 controls without LP.
  • Data on lifestyle factors and comorbidities were collected and analyzed.

Main Results:

  • The prevalence of dyslipidaemia was significantly higher in patients with LP (42.5%) compared to controls (37.8%).
  • LP remained significantly associated with dyslipidaemia after adjusting for confounders (multivariate OR 1.34).
  • The association was statistically significant (P < 0.001).
