Motion of a Projectile01:23

Motion of a Projectile

Projectile motion becomes evident when a player kicks the ball into the air. The launch angle, or the angle at which the ball is kicked, plays a crucial role in determining the trajectory of the projectile. As the ball soars through the air, influenced solely by gravity, its motion can be dissected into two independent velocity components: the horizontal and the vertical.
Horizontal motion, governed by the initial kick, maintains a constant velocity throughout the flight of the soccer ball.
Social Facilitation01:04

Social Facilitation

Not all intergroup interactions lead to negative outcomes. Sometimes, being in a group situation can improve performance. Social facilitation occurs when an individual performs better when an audience is watching than when the individual performs the behavior alone. This typically occurs when people are performing a task for which they are skilled.
Professional Values01:29

Professional Values

Nurses are responsible for caring for patients during birth, death, illness, and healing. Professional values guide the decisions and actions that nurses make in their careers. If nurses know the decisions and actions to take, providing patients with exceptional care is possible.
The values that are the foundation of the nursing profession are altruism, autonomy, human dignity, and social justice.
First, altruism refers to the concern for the welfare and well-being of others without personal...
The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.
Three Developmental Domains01:29

Three Developmental Domains

Human development is typically examined across three main domains: physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional. These domains represent the significant areas of change and continuity throughout the lifespan, from infancy to late adulthood.
Physical Development
Physical processes, also known as maturation, encompass the biological changes that occur across an individual's life. These changes begin with genetic inheritance and continue through various stages, including growth in height and weight,...
Modeling in Therapy01:26

Modeling in Therapy

Modeling, a key technique in therapy, uses observational learning to help clients acquire and practice new skills by watching therapists demonstrate desired behaviors. This approach, rooted in Albert Bandura's concept of vicarious learning, plays a significant role in therapeutic interventions for various psychological conditions, including social anxiety, ADHD, and depression.
Participant Modeling
Participant modeling involves therapists demonstrating calm and effective behaviors in situations...

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

Adolescent soccer players who excel in dribbling skills are more likely to become professionals. Faster peak and repeated dribbling performance during ages 14-18 predicts future professional soccer careers.

Area of Science:

  • Sports Science
  • Skill Acquisition
  • Talent Identification

Background:

  • Soccer is a sport demanding high technical proficiency, particularly dribbling.
  • Identifying talented players early is crucial for effective development programs.
  • Longitudinal studies tracking skill development are essential for understanding career trajectories.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the link between adolescent dribbling skill development and adult playing level in soccer.
  • To determine the specific dribbling performance levels required for professional soccer careers.
  • To assess the predictive value of dribbling performance in identifying future elite soccer players.

Main Methods:

  • A longitudinal study tracked 131 talented soccer players aged 14-18 annually.
  • Dribbling performance was assessed using the Shuttle Dribble Test (peak and repeated dribbling).
  • Players were later categorized as professional (n=54) or amateur (n=77) based on career status post-age 20.

Main Results:

  • Professional players were significantly faster in both peak (0.3s faster over 30m) and repeated dribbling (1s faster over 3x30m) during adolescence compared to amateurs (p=0.001).
  • A clear developmental trajectory in dribbling performance distinguished future professionals from amateurs.
  • These performance differences were evident during the critical 14-18 age range.

Conclusions:

  • Adolescent dribbling performance is a key indicator for identifying potential professional soccer players.
  • Early assessment of dribbling skills can inform talent development strategies.
  • Optimizing dribbling technique and endurance during adolescence is vital for reaching elite levels in soccer.
