¹³C NMR: ¹H–¹³C Decoupling

The probability of having two carbon-13 atoms next to each other is negligible because of the low natural abundance of carbon-13. Consequently, peak splitting due to carbon-carbon spin-spin coupling is not observed in spectra. However, protons up to three sigma bonds away split the carbon signal according to the n+1 rule, resulting in complicated spectra.
A broadband decoupling technique is used to simplify these complex, sometimes overlapping, signals. Broadband decoupling relies on a...

    Summary

A novel method efficiently suppresses Brillouin scattering in fiber amplifiers by amplifying two seed lasers. This technique enhances power scaling for laser systems.

    Area of Science:

    • Optics and Photonics
    • Laser Physics
    • Fiber Optics

    Background:

    • Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is a nonlinear optical effect that limits the power of fiber amplifiers.
    • Efficiently suppressing SBS is crucial for high-power fiber laser systems.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To demonstrate a new scheme for efficient suppression of Brillouin scattering in a Neodymium-doped fiber amplifier.
    • To enable further power scaling of existing fiber laser systems.

    Main Methods:

    • Simultaneous amplification of two seed lasers with wavelengths separated by twice the Brillouin shift.
    • Utilizing a 72 m-long Neodymium-doped fiber amplifier.

    Main Results:

    • Demonstrated efficient suppression of Brillouin scattering.
