Ezetimibe improves fasting lipid profiles and reduces postprandial hyperlipidaemia in type IIb hyperlipidaemia patients by inhibiting intestinal cholesterol absorption. This treatment may help reduce atherosclerosis risk.

- The mechanism involves suppression of intestinal chylomicron production.
