Abstract:
The aim of this work has been retrospective evaluation of flexion and supination strength as well as range of motion after reinsertion of biceps tendon using Boyd and Anderson method. In the years 2000-2005 this method was used in therapy of 9 men. All them had the right limb dominant. The average age of patients in the moment of injury was 48 years (from 27 to 58). The observation period was 3 years and 7 months. 7 of them showed up for the check examination. One of the patients a complication in the form of radioulnar syntostosis and complete loss of forearm rotation. The rest of patients did not exhibit the significant funcional limits of extension and flexion movement rates and forearm rotation. In those six patients the flexion strength and movement of supination strength were measured using dynamometer of own construction. Four patients had the right limb operated, two of them had the left one. The control group constituted 30 healthy, randomly chosen, right-handed men. Statistical assessment concerning quantity was only possible for the right limbs. Statistical difference between control group and tested group as for flexion strength and moment of supination strength was not observed. Operation of early anatomic reinsertion of ruptured biceps tendon using Boyd and Anderson method enables full recovery of the forearm flexion and supination strength.
