Background:

Filtering blebs are crucial for intraocular pressure (IOP) control post-trabeculectomy.
Evaluating bleb function is essential for successful glaucoma management.
Current methods for bleb assessment may have limitations.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the utility of thermography in assessing the function of filtering blebs.
To determine if surface temperature measurements correlate with bleb functionality.

Main Methods:

Thermography was used to measure surface temperatures of filtering blebs in 39 eyes from 33 patients post-trabeculectomy.
A novel parameter, temperature decrease in the filtering bleb (TDB), was introduced.
Eyes were categorized into good and poor IOP control groups, and bleb morphology was graded.

Main Results:

A statistically significant difference in TDB was observed between good (0.54°C) and poor (0.21°C) IOP control groups (p<0.0001).
Functional blebs exhibited lower temperatures compared to non-functional ones.
No significant correlation was found between bleb morphology and TDB.

Conclusions:

Thermographic measurements indicate that functional filtering blebs have lower surface temperatures.
Thermography shows potential as a non-invasive tool for evaluating bleb function.
Bleb morphology did not significantly influence thermographic findings.
