Abstract:
Autonomic hyperreflexia results from a variety of noxious stimuli. A case of acute pulmonary embolism associated with severe autonomic hyperreflexia illustrates the importance of autonomic hyperreflexia in signaling the onset of serious medical complications in spinal cord injured patients. An episode of autonomic hyperreflexia not associated with the usual causes can be an important signal of serious visceral pathology.
