Pain management in children with terminal illnesses

Abstract:
Managing pain in children at the end of life is a complex area that requires an understanding of the unique challenges offered by this young population. The following article will assist the practitioner with the management of pain associated with terminal illnesses in children. Discussion will focus on concepts and principles that form the foundation of pediatric pain management. Prior to the presentation, an overview is presented to address the pharmacologic concerns in the younger patients and the assessment of pain in the different age groups.
