Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Surgical Pathology
  • Head and Neck Neoplasms

Background:

  • Lymph node masses can represent various rare benign and malignant spindle cell neoplasms.
  • Distinguishing these requires comprehensive diagnostic approaches including ancillary studies.

Observation:

  • A 77-year-old woman presented with a slow-growing, painless left neck mass.
  • An excisional biopsy was performed, with no reported recurrence.

Findings:

  • Histopathological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural analyses confirmed a schwannoma within the lymph node.
  • This represents the first documented case of an intranodal schwannoma in a cervical lymph node.

Implications:

  • Accurate diagnosis of intranodal schwannoma is crucial for appropriate management.
