  • A sample of 104 children aged 8-13 years participated in the study.
  • Children completed a task measuring their ability to produce morphological derivations with varying phonological complexity (No Change, Phonemic Change, Stress Change, Both Phonemic and Stress Change).
  • Statistical analyses, including analysis of variance and regression, were used to examine the relationships between variables.

Main Results:

  • Children performed significantly worse on morphological derivations involving stress changes compared to those without stress changes.
  • Both prosodic sensitivity and morphological awareness were significant predictors of reading ability.
  • The predictive power of morphological awareness was particularly strong for derivations requiring stress manipulation.
