    Area of Science:

    • Photonics and Optical Engineering
    • Laser Physics and Technology

    Background:

    • Generating high-quality, short optical pulses is crucial for various applications, including telecommunications and scientific research.
    • Existing methods often struggle with pulse pedestal suppression and timing jitter, limiting performance.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop a simple and effective optical pulse source capable of producing highly stable, short optical pulses.
    • To enhance pulse quality by suppressing pedestals and minimizing timing jitter.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilizing a large-signal directly modulated laser diode to generate initial pulses.
    • Employing phase modulation to enhance the negative chirp of the generated pulses.
    • Compressing the phase-modulated pulses using an optimized length of dispersion compensating fiber (DCF).
