Abstract:
A poorly run discharge process can result in nursing dissatisfaction, swing between high bed vacancies to crowding, and wasteful resource spending. Hospital examines nurse-patient ratios and makes changes that lead to lower turnover rates. "Holy Grail" of discharge planning process is measuring the time from when the physician writes an order to the time the patient is accepted on the floor.
