Is inflammation a consequence of extracellular hyperosmolarity?

Hyperosmolarity, or high solute concentration, is closely linked to inflammation. This study found that elevated osmolarity in inflammatory fluids triggers proinflammatory cytokine release and alters macrophage cell fate, suggesting these phenomena are synonymous.
