Dimeric analogs of Anthracenyl Isoxazole Amides (AIMs) show promise as anti-tumor agents. Dimer 6 demonstrated the highest efficacy against human glioma cells (SNB-19) in this compound class.
Area of Science:
- Medicinal Chemistry
- Organic Synthesis
- Cancer Therapeutics
Background:
- Anthracenyl Isoxazole Amides (AIMs) represent a class of anti-tumor compounds.
- Previous research has explored AIMs for their therapeutic potential.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize and evaluate dimeric analogs of Anthracenyl Isoxazole Amides (AIMs).
- To identify novel AIM derivatives with enhanced anti-cancer activity.
Main Methods:
- Preparation of dimeric analogs of Anthracenyl Isoxazole Amides.
- In vitro efficacy testing against the human glioma Central Nervous System cell line SNB-19.
Main Results:
- Dimeric analogs of AIMs were successfully synthesized.
- Dimer 6 exhibited the highest anti-tumor efficacy among the tested compounds.
- The efficacy was specifically noted against the SNB-19 human glioma cell line.
Conclusions:
- Dimeric AIM analogs are effective anti-cancer agents.
- Dimer 6 is a highly potent anti-tumor compound for glioma treatment.
- Further development of dimeric AIMs is warranted for Central Nervous System cancers.

Aromatic ring substitutions: Substituting the aromatic ring with –OH groups at positions 3 and 4 yields catecholamines (e.g., epinephrine), which have a high affinity for adrenoceptors. Hydrogen bonding between –OH groups and receptors enhances adrenergic activity.
