Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) may be effective for unplanned extubation in intensive care unit (ICU) patients during the weaning period. However, immediate reintubation is recommended if weaning criteria are not yet met.

- Further research with larger sample sizes is necessary to solidify conclusions regarding NPPV effectiveness in unplanned extubation scenarios.
