Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate a time-efficient method for estimating VO2max using a single submaximal stage of a treadmill walking test.

  • A multiple regression model was developed using data from 117 subjects (20-59 years) who completed a 4-min stage at 5% grade and a VO2max test.
  • The model incorporated walking speed, heart rate, age, and gender.
  • Model accuracy was assessed via cross-validation in 22 subjects.

  • The developed regression model (R2 = 0.86) accurately estimated VO2max based on a single submaximal treadmill stage.
