Summary

Blunt-tip needles caused no nerve injury during intraneural insertion in a human sciatic nerve model. Sharp-tip needles resulted in minimal fascicular and vascular damage, suggesting safer needle placement techniques are possible.

  • Sharp-tip needles (Group D) caused damage to 3.2% of fascicles and 1 intraneural vessel.

Conclusions:

  • Intraneural needle insertion with blunt-tip needles demonstrated no nerve injury.
  • Findings suggest that needle tip design influences the risk of nerve damage during intraneural procedures.
