Abstract:
To evaluate high-risk group in the elderly is very important. Elderly itself is high-risk, and elderly patients show higher frequencies of cardiovascular diseases, falling and fracture, dementia and impairment of activity of daily life (ADL). To evaluate high-risk for cardiovascular diseases, arterial stiffness measured by pulse wave velocity and atherosclerosis measured by carotid-echography are very useful. To evaluate prognosis of elderly patients, comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is quite useful tool. We evaluated prognosis of gastroenterological surgery using CGA. Patients with mild depression evaluated by geriatric depression score worsened their ADL after gastroenterological surgery, however, the presence of dementia did not influence on ADL after surgery.
