The professional landscape for healthcare information technologists and informatics nurses requires clear qualification pathways.
Existing certification systems may not fully align with evolving educational needs in health informatics.

Purpose of the Study:

To compare the certification requirements for Healthcare Information Technologists (HITs) and Informatics Nurses (INs).
To identify potential modifications to the HIT certification to support the development of Informatics Nurse graduate programs in Japan.

Main Methods:

Comparative analysis of certification criteria for HITs and INs.
Identification of knowledge or skill gaps in the HIT certification relative to IN requirements.

Main Results:

The HIT certification system was found to be nearly complete, lacking only two specific items.
These two identified items represent key areas for curriculum development.

Conclusions:

The HIT certification can serve as a foundational qualification for Informatics Nurses.
Integrating the missing components into graduate education would facilitate the establishment of specialized IN programs for Japan.
