Summary

This study reports the first case of a cellular intraventricular schwannoma in the fourth ventricle. Microsurgery achieved complete removal, confirming this rare brain tumor can be successfully treated.

Background:

Intraventricular schwannomas are exceptionally rare brain tumors.
Schwann cell tumors typically arise along peripheral nerves or cranial nerves.

Observation:

A 71-year-old female presented with an incidentally discovered fourth ventricle tumor.
Imaging revealed a solitary, contrast-enhancing, exophytic mass in the fourth ventricle.

Findings:

Histopathology confirmed the tumor as a primary intraventricular cellular schwannoma.
Complete tumor resection was achieved via microsurgery using a suboccipital craniotomy.

Implications:

This case highlights that schwannomas, though rare, can occur within the brain ventricles.
